Perched 275 meters above sea level in the mountains of Wonju, Museum SAN (Space, Art, Nature) is a serene sanctuary designed by Tadao Ando around the concept of "Disconnection to Reconnect." Seamlessly integrating minimalist exposed concrete with the natural landscape, the museum guides visitors through an immersive pedestrian journey—from vibrant flower fields to a tranquil Water Garden anchored by reflective pools and dramatic archways, out toward stone mounds reminiscent of ancient Silla tumuli. Ando’s precise geometric cutouts and meditation spaces continuously frame the surrounding sky and mountains, creating a deep, harmonious interplay between architecture and nature.

The journey culminates in world-class light and multimedia experiences that challenge sensory perception. In a dedicated pavilion, James Turrell's iconic light installations - such as the boundless color fields of Ganzfeld and the sky-framing aperture of Skyspace - transform pure light into a physical, immersive artwork. Complementing this illumination, the museum integrates digital media into its collection, featuring interactive installations in the Paper Gallery alongside video art pioneer Nam June Paik’s dynamic sculptures, establishing a captivating dialogue between tradition, high technology, and space.
